Founded in 1821, The Manchester Guardian was edited by C. P. Scott between 1872 and 1929, his son Edward Scott until 1932, and until 1944 by William Crozier. A strong supporter of liberal and progressive causes, the newspaper opposed the Boer War of 1899-1902.
