Published by Yale University, The Yale Review claims to be the oldest literary quarterly in the United States. Founded as The Christian Spectator in 1819, it was renamed in 1911 by its new editor, Wilbur Cross, who remained at the helm for three decades. The magazine's numerous illustrious contributors include Thomas Mann, Virginia Woolf, Leon Trotsky, H. G. Wells, H. L. Mencken, Ford Madox Ford, and Wallace Stevens.
