Popular Amsterdam daily founded in 1870 by Georg Lodewijk Funke (1836–1885). Priced at just 6.40 florins a year (compared to 37 florins for
Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant), it had gained a circulation of 40,000 subscribers by 1895.
Het Nieuws van den Dag merged with
De Courant in 1927, continuing as
De Courant/
Nieuws van de Dag until the newspaper was discontinued in 1997.
