16 April 1912

The Baltimore American was a broadsheet daily newspaper which ran between 1883 and 1964. The latest incarnation of a series of Baltimore papers going back to 1773, it continued to appear as The Baltimore News-American until 1984. In 1921, it was owned by Frank Munsey, whose Munsey's Magazine had serialized Conrad's Victory in 1915. In 1923, Munsey sold The Baltimore American to the newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst.
